Spring is here and with it comes exciting updates from the ZenQuotes staff. We have seen exceptional support from our users, and thanks to a few generous donations, our team is very happy to share some of the things that have been going on behind the scenes.
Subscription Management Portal
As our site continues to grow, we have seen a high volume of API key requests from developers who want more features and less restrictions on usage. For a while we managed these keys manually but that has become too difficult to maintain so our team has developed a subscription portal at my.zenquotes.io for users who wish to unlock additional features. If you are currently using an API key issued prior to this upgrade, its highly recommended you obtain a new key through the subscription portal as old keys will be expiring in the near future.
Better Documentation
We’ve updated our API documentation to help users better understand how to get the most out of ZenQuotes. The existing guide on the homepage will still serve as a Quick Start but having a separate area on the site for documentation allows us to expand into the future.
New API Author Feature
For existing users with an API key, It’s now possible to filter for quotes by a specific author using the [author] tag in your API call. This was a feature added by popular demand for those that run bots for specific people or have tribute sites. More details on how to use this feature can be found in the updated documentation.
Custom Quotes Feature
Subscribers can now run their own version of ZenQuotes by uploading custom quote entries through their dashboard, unlocking a whole new set of development possibilities. What kind of API would you create?
New Home and Better Performance
Last but certainly not least, we are very excited to announce ZenQuotes is now hosted on a virtual private server. This move was made possibly only by our subscribers and the generous contributions from our supporters. Our development team has also scrubbed through the source code and made things more efficient. Everyone should notice considerable performance increases when using the API service.
What’s next for ZenQuotes?
Only time will tell, our team will keep hand picking the best inspirational quotes while the developers keep the gears on the back-end turning. There are a few ideas in the works but we love to get user feedback, especially from our subscribers about what they like and want to see in the future. Thank you so much for your continued support.
